Proof of residency documentation must be related to a permanent residence such as a recent utility bill, military housing order, homeowner insurance policy or mortgage statement.

If families need assistance with registration, they are encouraged to contact their student’s school directly.

The registration process for new-to-the-district students will begin in late spring.

Killeen ISD is issuing a follow-up to the district’s earlier communication about possible student walkouts to ensure families and staff understand expectations and consequences.

KISD supports student expression that is safe, respectful, and does not interrupt instruction. Families may wish to discuss alternatives to walkouts with their student, such as: passive expression (wearing a specific color of clothing, wristband, or button, as permitted by the Killeen ISD dress code), writing a letter or email to an elected official such as a member of Congress, or participating in discussions or community events outside of school hours.

The Texas Education Agency issued guidance to school districts on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, reinforcing that districts must protect instruction during the school day and follow state law and attendance requirements. Killeen ISD will follow this guidance.

In Killeen ISD, the focus remains on student safety and keeping students engaged in learning.

As a reminder, secondary campuses in Killeen ISD are closed campuses. Students may not leave campus during the school day without being signed out by a parent/guardian through the front office.

Any student who participates in a walkout will be marked absent and receive discipline consequences under attendance and truancy policies, as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.

Under Killeen ISD policy FNCI(Legal), disruptive activity on school property include actions such as obstructing entrances, exits, or hallways or interfering with school operations. Student behavior that meets this definition will result in disciplinary consequences, including up to a Class B misdemeanor under the Texas Education Code § 37.123.

Killeen ISD respects student free speech and want students to be heard in ways that are safe, respectful, and appropriate during the school day. KISD thanks families for their partnership in keeping campuses safe and focused on learning.

A message was sent directly to parents/guardians of middle and high school students.

🚗 Arrival Safety Reset — Please Read Carefully 🚍

We need immediate partnership from families to correct unsafe arrival practices. These are not new expectations, but rather the same expectations that have been clearly communicated since the beginning of school.

⏰ No drop-off before 7:30 AM
• There is no supervision prior to this time

⏰ 7:30–7:52 AM
• Parent drop-off = BACK of the building

⏰ After 7:52 AM
• Back entrance closes
• Front drop-off allowed
• Students enter through Door 1

🚦 Critical Safety Rule:
• Students are NEVER dropped in parking lots
• All drop-offs and pick-ups MUST be curbside

Because these expectations have not been followed consistently, we’ve had to request additional district staff to manage parking lots during arrival. That should not be necessary.

JDA staff and parents are on the same team. Partnership means shared responsibility and shared accountability—just as families hold us accountable, we must hold families accountable for safety procedures.

This is about adult responsibility and student safety.

📩 Please refer to your email for full details.
